Laptop 12V Power Supply

I don't know why, but it is very difficult to find a 12 VDC laptop power supply with a capacity of more than 120 Watts. I need a 12 VDC power supply for my laptop for when I use it in my RV and my boat. Many laptops require a smaller power supply, and new laptops can now take advantage of the power that a USB C connection can provide (all must carry a minimum of 60 W, and support up to 100 W). But my Acer Aspire V Nitro laptop has a large screen and a fast CPU that requires power on the order of 135 W (7 A at 19 VDC). I could use an inverter, but they are large, noisy, expensive, and inefficient. Converting a 12 VDC source to 19 VDC requires a boost converter.

The power supply shown in the image above was purchased from Amazon. This power supply has a power output of 8A at 19 VDC or 152 W. It is easy to find alternatives at Amazon and online, but you need to be careful you find one with the same input / output voltage and power (wattage) capacity. The Amazon item is listed as P/N S12D24K152Z, and a search for this and the manufacturer "Downsol" labeled on the device yields additional online purchase options.

I used a laptop universal DC Plug Set such as ASIN B01HORSXZ0 with female 5.5 x 2.1 mm coaxial power connector (IEC 60130-10 Type A) on the input side to connect the output from the boost converter to my laptop's power input. Many other plug adapater kits can be found.

A product opportunity exists for the entrepreneur who advances this concept to provide a generic solution for laptops. The product would at the minimum look something like pictured, with good quality 8 A capacity fused 12 VDC cigarette lighter plug that has a snug fit.
