I enjoy programming and electronics, but I don't enjoy cutting and drilling standard enclosures in order to put my custom IoT project into a box. My solution was to develop a custom 3D printed enclosure that would accept the mounting of Feather / FeatherWing, Arduino, and various displays, electrical connectors, batteries, etc.
The enclosure concept is simple, and yet very flexible. Six panels on all sides (top, bottom, long side, short side) are screw mounted to a frame. The panels are customized to accept a variety of popular components, such as a microcontroller, diaplay, power connector, switch, battery, etc. The base of the frame has four tabs that allow the enclosure to be optionally mounted (a drill template is also available).
The overall dimensions are 123 mm long x 105 mm wide x 53 mm tall. You can stack up to TBDx Arduino + shields, or TBDx Feather & FeatherWings. The enclosure is 3D printed with side panels that have no features. Drill them out as needed to customize them, or 3D print custom SHORT SIDE and LONG SIDE panels that fit specific components. Custom top and bottom panels to accommodate various components should be 3D printed along with the frame + sides to create a complete enclosure.
The Feather bottom panel accepts the mounting of a Feather or FeatherWing(s) that are either single, double, or triple width. The mounting pads accept a #2 machine screw and they are long enough to mount a Feather / FeathrWing with stacking headers so that the pins don't foul.
The Arduino bottom plate accepts the mounting of either an Arduino Uno, or a Mega with the standard stacking headers installed.
This panel accepts the popular, inexpensive, and standard HD44780 16x4 LCD available from Adafruit, Shutao, HiLetgo , and many others.
Add the Adafruit 2.9" Grayscale eInk / ePaper Display FeatherWing to the enclosure by installing it into the top of the enclosure with this custom enclosure, and then stacking a Feather and any other FeatherWings you need underneeth the eInk / ePaper display.
The clip accepts a Li 4400 mAh 3.7 V battery, Adafruit PN 354 or Mouser #485-354.
Supply 7 to 36 VDC power to your Feather / Arduino project through this 2.1 mm DC barrel jack available from Adafruit P/N 610 or Mouser 485-610.
The Sara-u SD Card Female to TF Micro SD Male (SD to TF) Flexible Memory Card Extension Cable Extender Adapter Allows you to connect to a microSD card on your MCU shield / FeatherWing / display, and then provide a SD Card female slot on the short panel for easy user access.
